What is it?

Simply put the pling-o-matic is an application that converts records about Positive Activities held in the Family Information Directory into Plings.

How does it work?

We query the "FIDy" for records that have been tagged with the term `Positive Activity'. The returned XML documents are passed through a stack of regular expression which identify instance data (for more information on data formats captured click here).

We then pass the regular expressions and the original XML document through some conditions designed to identify records which match common formats. The exact formats the pling-o-matic currently parses can be found here.

Records that pass the criteria for a condition are then created into a valid pling XML document and uploaded to Plings.

How often does the pling-o-matic search for updates?

There's no way for us to know when a record is updated at FIDy. To ensure the plings we create are as up to date as possible the Pling-o-matic runs once a day. This means any changed or deleted records are updated or removed from the plings database daily.

What do i have to do to get the pling-o-matic to look for my data?

It's all setup and ready to go, all you need to do is make sure the data is there, follow these simple steps and give us a shout to tell us it's there. We'll point the pling-o-matic at it and your data will be live at plings.net within 24 hours.
